About Erik

I am an associate professor of Geosciences at Denison University, a small liberal arts college in central Ohio. I study volcanoes for my research and have worked on volcanoes in Chile, New Zealand, California and Oregon. If you’re curious about what I do at Denison, check out my faculty page. I’m always looking for undergraduate students interested in volcanoes to come to Denison and work with me!

I’ve been writing Eruptions since 2008 and have worked for Science Blogs, BigThink and Wired. I’ve written articles for a variety of media sites, including Daily Beast and have been appeared on NPR, the BBC and more. I love talking about volcanoes and how we can better understand them to prevent volcanic disasters.

You can find me on Twitter at @eruptionsblog, where I help keep my over 11,000 followers up to date on volcanism across the globe.
